Say "No" to Plastic
In the last so many years, we have accumulated many plastic bags in our house – as a result of our planned, involuntary or serendipitous purchases. Now, we have over 200 plastic bags – big, medium, small.
Considering the grave danger – plastics pose to our environment, we have proactively taken up not to take any plastic bags when the shopkeepers offer so. For instance, when we go to the vegetable shop we make sure we carry two plastic bags and then refuse the bags offered by the shop-attenders! They kind of look confused and bemused. When we tell them about the hazard to the environment, they smile in approval (not sure if they understand fully). Now for companies, it is necessary to keep the plastic bags so that the affluent customers can carry the merchandise and along with it the brand. But we must all learn to say ‘No’ to this.
In our house, we have now sorted all the plastic bags in various orders and make sure we keep at least 2 of them handy when we go out. Other option is to use the jute, cloth bags.
Would encourage all of us to do the same and tell our friends and relatives about it.

Plastic bags are not biodegradable. Even if some researchers claim that they are, they do not decompose fully. Also the ink used to give color to the plastic bags is made up of cadmium, and is highly toxic when it is released in the environment. Paper bags on the other hand, are reusable and biodegradable. So, for small purchases, avoid taking plastic bags from the vendors or bring a cloth bag along. Insist your vendor to provide paper bags if he stocks them. This alone can save hundreds of millions bag from polluting the environment.
Let’s put our hands together and save our planet!
