REUNION: Meeting school friends after 15 years

At the start of 2011, I had set a goal to improve my networking ability and friends circle. For quite sometime I have been thinking that it will be quite fun to meet my school friends from AG Church. I have met many of them on Facebook and wondered it will be really good if we get to meet them personally as well. I had planned to be in Kolkata during December. I thought it might be a nice time to catch up with old mates sometime after Christmas and before the New Year, when people are in holiday mood and Calcutta gets lit up in Christmas lights and winter festivities. TI Team-building @ Taj Fisherman’s Cove

The dates have been getting postponed every week since the last one month. After all it is not easy having all 29 of us working in various projects, having different deadlines decide on a common date. A surprise meeting on a Tuesday afternoon and as we all huddled together in the conference room ruling out possibilities – and then the beans were spilled – Fisherman’s cove at The Taj. People hustled to finish up their tasks in the first half of the day. No more coffee breaks, no chatting in the cubes. “Yes, we will finish before we leave”, was unequivocally communicated to all anxious onsite coordinators. So on a sunny Chennai afternoon, some promising to come back and work – the Texans at Infosys went to chill out together. A twenty minute drive and we were all at the venue, all 28 of us. As we made our way to the open thatched huts ca...

Exorbitant Exuberance

Excerpts from the speech as emcee in ITMC on its 7th Birthday .. felt really good making a come back on stage after 2 long years. For introducing the speakers I asked three questions - 1). What has been the most significant event/memory in the last 7 years of your life? 2). What is your fondest memory about ITMC? 3). Anything else that you may want me to mention.. It was a revelation on the kind of answers I got: Answer1: The fondest memory for me since the year 2000 would be that of traveling through the north of India from Jabalpur to Sikkim during the semester breaks, passing through the states of UP, Bihar and West Bengal, I used to see the stark diversities. That lonely journey when my reading would increase multifold, the rocking of the train used to put me to sleep, getting down at deserted stations late in the night to have a cup of tea and finally reaching home after nearly 48 hours of train and 5 hours of road journey. It remains ensconced in my mind and I have vivid pictur...
